Allowing Compassion to Change Society Taboos… Part I: Mental Health

Mental Health is strongest taboo Society is riddled with taboos and one of the strongest, lives as a parasite in the issue around Mental Health. Today most families are affected in some way, but its no good pointing the finger… because each one of us is responsible for following the social norm of what is acceptable/non-acceptable/forbidden and have created a society of parasites that allows people to feed off the energy of the vulnerable, stealing power, labelling them mad, crazy and violent and leave them in a box, pumped up with tranquillisers to make sure we all remain safe and happy.

You would have thought living in the 21st century, after so much experience… we could of created a civilised society where everyone is treated equally, lives comfortably and feels loved, supported and safe within our community. You would of thought we would know better than to continue to follow the norm (believing in OLD beliefs, patterns and behaviours) that alienate our fellow man who may find themselves caught up in a depression, anxiety or psychosis. We remain silent, we don’t talk about it because it’s unacceptable for people to make a nuisance of themselves… to hear voices, talk to themself, be afraid, violate themself or another.

Instead we observe how the queues at the Mental Health clinic become longer. We nod our head at the diagnosis and list of labels the doctors give regarding the dis-ease of the brain and mind. After all it is common knowledge that it is the chemical imbalance of the brain that is the cause and the reason why 95% of mentally ill patients are medicated. When someone tries to kill them self due to either the medication, feeling isolated or unworthy the doctors, with the help of the judge (who issues permission) will forcefully medicate you and lock you away… for everyones protection.

What has happened? Where is our conscience and resonance to help and support our fellow man?

Well most of you know that I was born a rebel and have never liked taboos… people telling me what is acceptable and unacceptable, especially when its based on old traditions and untruths and missing the essential ingredient of compassion. I love to research things that I feel don’t add up and get to the bottom of things AND way and behold, I discover RELIGION (the Roman Catholic Church) is behind most of the injustice and power play played out today. We continue to be manipulated because we still believe the untruths that have been passed down, generation after generation. We remain the pawns as the game grows bigger and drowns us all.

We’ve fallen deep into the abyss of the Human game, forgetting our true origin and why we are living now. True passion and compassion no longer flow throughout humanity as we have lost all sight of our divine spark that guides us to live a life of unity, community, harmony and freedom. We have all but destroyed our ancient native communities and practice of being one with each other and the Environment, teaching each other the art of loving and healing self, which in turn keeps the community and the Environment whole in wellness.

In my research I’ve came across many links of men and women who are speaking out about the lack of compassion and treatment of mentally ill people in society. One blog/website, a film and a book in particular excited me so much… I have to share with you all. They share a similar understanding to myself and by joining forces we can be the change that can only flow into society. We are choosing to support, love and care for ourself and each other, just by being interested, and talking and listening about the issues around Mental Health.

It is time for us all to chose for ourself, to own our own power and magnificence and allow the flow of compassion from within to bring an end to this old taboo. IAM asking you to become interested and ask these questions too…

Are there spiritual aspects to mental illness? Is psychosis related to spiritual enlightenment or shamanism? Is there a relationship between shamanism, spiritual enlightenment and psychosis? Are these just breakdowns, or can they be breakthroughs?

I’d love to hear from you about this and any eye-opening truths that shake your world view wide open when reading this information. One of my eye-opening moments was watching the film and hearing that back in 1999 it had already been reported there being no truth found of chemical imbalance in mentally disturbed people AND doctors and psychiatrists are still being taught to mediate patients as an answer. Rethinking Madness

Rethinking Madness… towards a paradigm shift in our understanding and treatment of psychosis By Paris Williams PH.D.

“Rethinking Madness is clear, thorough, fascinating and bold. It is written in easy to understand English, not postmodern jargon; it thoroughly examines and debunks the psychiatric model; and Williams is not afraid to make contro- versial affirmations. Anyone who is skeptical about the mental health system will be convinced after reading Williams’ book: There is an alternative.”

Hi Barbara,
We must be in synch because I just recently watched the film and found it very moving and accurate. This is an important issue for our times.

love, Linda

Thanks for standing up and speaking out Barbara. I don’t like the way we label kids and adults so they can be “treated” which usually means drugs, isolation, and even punishment. I was just reading about a new approach for teaching kids who act out in school that uses compassion and understanding to explore why they act out and helps the kids develop better coping skills. May we see and encourage the best in each other.

Hi Barbara
Have worked, alongside and with people labelled this way. A lot were highly creative, vulnerable, they seemed to be able to drop into a chasm between illusional mind and truth in a freefall way. Dropping in and out involuntarily to a space that wasnt defined by normal terms yet was a pathway to a certain undefined somewhere. I have had success too with pulling some together and bringing them through. There is a lot to this subject. So dig your soul. Love is the answer always.
Thankyou. Love Kirstyxx

Yes as everyone is unique there is no one answer and if we can help one person at a time make sense of their life… that’s what we can do. Thanks kristy for your support and kindness x much love

They must have cookie cutter people all neatly lined up. How else will we be controlled?

Yet, I have a immediate family member who is deemed bipolar. She has genius in her and wild creativity…and lots and lots of meds. She just knows some things.

I have also taken care of her when when she locked herself in the bathroom and threatened to kill herself; and worried sick over her when she’s disappeared for months strung out on Crack– her self medication.

Her babies were young then. We had to care for them. They are grown now. She found a good man who just loves her. She pulled it together.

No more Crack or streets or selling herself. She lives in a circumspect world where the walls are familiar and she doesn’t have to color too far outside the lines and the voices don’t get too loud, where they only torment her just a little.

We hold our breath mostly. She says her life is short.

I cry. I don’t have exact answers for her. She has always rejected them or any one else’s answers that would leave her vulnerable to the voices that drive her towards death. The world becomes too large and scary for her outside of the life she’s in now where everything is ordered between Sleep / no sleep and walls and meds and short trips out with the man who loves her.

I’m sure there are answers for her, but maybe the right questions haven’t been asked yet. For now, all I can do is hold my breath. And love her.

The love and care you are giving her is always the big part of the answer. Maybe reading about how it’s normal and all part of our life might help as more people open up about mental health. When we don’t fight what is happening we allow our own compassionate presence into the story and this in itself can become our protector, like a wall keeping out any voices that might want to taunt us. Loving self is always a step to see what works for us. Much love to you all and so appreciate your thoughts, Thankyou x barbara
